เรื่องย่อ In the Heart of the Sea
เล่าเรื่องจริงของเรือล่าวาฬเอสเซกส์ แนนทัคเก็ต ที่ออกเดินทางจากนิวอิงแลนด์ในปี 1820 ซึ่งเป็นยุคทองแห่งการล่าวาฬ พร้อมชายหนุ่มจำนวน 21 คน ที่ออกไปผจญภัยกลางทะเล แต่โชคร้ายที่เรือลำนี้ถูกโจมตีโดยวาฬยักษ์หัวทุยที่มีชื่อว่า โมบี้ ดิ และต้องผจญภัยกับสถานการณ์อันเลวร้าย ที่ทำให้ลูกเรือต้องหาทางเอาชีวิตรอดท่ามกลางความรุนแรงของโรคร้าย ความหิวโหย และต้องเผชิญกับการสังหารโหดเพื่อให้มีชีวิตรอดแม้จะต้องฆ่ากันเอง
In the Heart of the Sea สร้างขึ้นจากนิยายขายดีของนาธาเนียล ฟิลบริค เกี่ยวกับการเดินทางสุดตื่นเต้นจากเรื่องจริงของ Essex ช่วงฤดูหนาวปี 1820 เรือล่าปลาวาฬของนิวอิงแลนด์ที่ชื่อ Essex ถูกโจมตีจากสิ่งที่ไม่มีใครอยากเชื่ออย่างปลาวาฬที่มีขนาดใหญ่ยักษ์ ซึ่งมนุษย์สัมผัสได้ถึงพลังแห่งการล้างแค้น เรื่องจริงของภัยพิบัติทางทะเลได้เป็นแรงบันดาลใจให้กับเรื่อง Moby-Dick ของเฮอร์แมน เมลวิล แต่นั่นเป็นเรื่องราวเพียงครึ่งเดียวเท่านั้น
